17 year old Trayvon Martin was killed on Sunday, February 26, 2012. This tradegy happened in Sanford, Florida. George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated community of townhomes in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman was patrolling the neighborhood when he spotted Martin, who was unarmed and walking to the home of his father's fiancee. He was returning from a trip to the convenience store with an iced tea and a bag of Skittles. It was raining, and Martin was walking with the hood of his sweat shirt pulled over his head. He talked to his girlfriend on a cellphone moments before the shooting. Zimmerman claimed that Martin was beating him so hard that he was forced to shoot him. A police report says Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose and back of his head when police arrived at the scene of the killing February 26. Zimmerman was not charged with any offences. Officers were unsure of what really happened with the fight. Martin was thought of as a suspicious person because he was wearing his hood up. Zimmerman then called the police and reported him. Moments after, Zimmerman said to have been attacked by Martin, so in self defense, he shot him. He also said to have cried out loud for help numerous times before he shot. Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged so far.
Martin's girlfriend claimed that Martin approached Zimmerman and asked, "What are you stopping me for?" zimmerman replied: "What are you doing around here?"The girl said she then got the impression that an altercation was taking place and that someone had pushed Martin, because the headset fell out of his ear, and the phone shut off. About 5 minutes later, a neighbor had called the police and told them that she has heard a man screaming "help,help!" Soon after that, she heard a gun shot. Once the police arrived there, Trayvon was found dead with a wound in his chest by a gun. George states that it was obviously self defense because Trayvon nearly attacked him and smacked his head off of the ground. The police report says that Zimmerman's nose and head was bleeding.
