In October 2009 Alyssa Bustamante murdered 9-year old Elizabeth Olten. She had made her little sister ask Elizabeth to play. Alyssa’s sister then was told to ask Elizabeth to come inside. When she went inside Alyssa had murdered Elizabeth. Before this had happened Alyssa had dug two graves in a park. She buried Elizabeth in one of the two graves under some leaves. After she wrote in her diary, she said, “I don’t know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the ‘ohmygawd I can’t do this’ feeling, it’s pretty enjoyable. I’m kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now…lol.”

Alyssa’s life before this wasn’t that great. She had anxiety. She was also suffered from depression. Alyssa had overdosed on pain killers once also. She said that she only committed the murder to see how it felt.

On January 21,2010 Alyssa pleaded guilty. The defense tried to argue that the medicine she was taking made her violent, but they did not win. They have just stated her sentencing on February 8, 2012. Her sentencing is a life time in prison. She has said that she wish she could take it back and she also apologized to Elizabeth’s family.

This event is important because this girl had no reason to kill Elizabeth. She had a messed up mind and deserves to be sent to jail for life. There are many people in our world like Alyssa Bustamante. There are some people who have done this and haven’t gone to jail for life because they haven’t been proven guilty. No matter what Alyssa does, she can never take back what she did and we are glad that she has been punished for it.
